Science of Reading/Literacy Professional Learning, Executive Coaching, On-Site Instructional Coaching

Supporting schools in advancing literacy is a deep passion of mine.  A most recent success occurred at a school that I supported as an external coach.  The leader and educators at the school were extremely motivated to change literacy learning outcomes for their students.  After two years of partnership, they are exceeding the state average in most grade levels and across content areas.  What might a similar partnership do for your school or district?

In the Classroom

Elementary Mathematics Professional Learning, Executive Coaching, and On-Site Instructional Coaching

As a classroom teacher, my students averaged 2-3 years of growth for one year of math instruction.  Knowing how to provide core instruction that is accessible to all, while meeting the individual learning needs to accelerate progress is essential given the learner variability found in today's classrooms.  Let's work together to create mathematical learning environments where kids thrive!

Supporting Multilingual Learners in the Core Instruction (Tier 1) Classroom

While serving as the Multilingual Learner Coordinator in the second largest school district in Alaska, we were able to improve the percentage of MLLs obtaining proficiency or making progress on the state assessment from 25% to 75% in two school years.  Given our success, I am a firm believer that MLLs can achieve at high levels when our classroom instruction and supports are aligned to meet their specific learning and language needs.  Let's work together to transform your system, too!

Student Centered Learning

As a state level administrator for over a decade, I observed trends that played out across systems for all of us to learn from.  Two initial tips of advice for advancing student centered learning: 1) do NOT start with standards-based grading as it will kill your initiative before you even begin and 2) start by developing a culture of learning that holds high expectations for all learners, has strong teacher and student relationships in which each student feels like they have at least one caring adult, and leverages the power of collective efficacy through shared clarity to maximize learning.  If you want more ideas and support for how to effectively advance student centered learning, let's connect!

District Leader, Washington County

Jennifer's presentation was incredibly informative, showcasing her innovative strategies to engage adult learners through compelling anecdotes, rigorous research, complex texts, and interactive activities. It had the most profound impact on both teachers and students.

School Leader, Juab SD

Dr. Throndsen provided  high quality and research-based materials to enhance our instruction and taught the teachers how to implement specific strategies.  Our students showed tremendous growth averaging gains of 15-20% on state assessments.
